Hardness is only one material property, and it should not be confused with density, thickness, surface texture or the overall feel of a finished deck panel. A useful buying decision starts with the actual deck zone, exposure, traffic, cleaning routine, substrate and verified product specifications.
For most DIY buyers, the practical first step is to choose a proven marine flooring product with the right thickness, sheet size, pattern, color and adhesive for the project. When a supplier provides a hardness value, compare it only when the test scale and method are also stated.

Durometer testing measures how far a specified indenter presses into a material under controlled conditions. The result is useful for comparing materials only when the same scale, procedure and relevant specimen conditions are used.
