The correct number of EVA foam sheets is determined twice: first by total measured area, and then by checking whether every actual deck panel can fit inside the selected sheet dimensions. Area math gives a useful minimum, but long panels, hatch lids, curves, seams and directional faux-teak stripes can increase the final quantity.
For most straightforward jon boat, fishing boat, pontoon, helm, cockpit and swim-platform projects, you can measure the deck, plan the layout and purchase universal cut-to-fit EVA foam sheets directly. Complex fitted projects may benefit from custom cutting, but they still require accurate measurements or templates.
Use this sequence:

(total measured area × allowance factor) ÷ sheet area = preliminary sheet quantity
Round the result upward. A 1.08 result requires two sheets, not one. A 2.01 result requires three sheets unless a different sheet size or a revised seam plan produces a workable layout.

Gross area assumes the entire rectangle can be used. Real projects normally lose some material to curved edges, pattern direction, damaged corners, trimming and spaces between nested panels. Product sizes, colors and adhesive options can vary by listing and selected variant, so confirm the product page before ordering.
Do not estimate from the boat’s overall length. A 20-foot boat does not contain 20 feet of usable rectangular flooring. Consoles, benches, hatch lids, seat bases, sidewalls and uncovered areas change the actual requirement.

Example:
(60 × 24) ÷ 144 = 10 square feet
length in feet × width in feet = square feet
(length in centimeters × width in centimeters) ÷ 10,000 = square meters
Keep one unit system throughout the worksheet. Do not mix inches, feet, centimeters and meters in the same calculation without converting them first.
(base × height) ÷ 2 = area
Use a perpendicular height rather than a sloped side.
((front width + rear width) ÷ 2) × length = approximate area
This can estimate material for a tapered walkway, but it does not replace a template when the sides curve or the corners are irregular.
For early quantity planning, divide the shape into smaller rectangles and triangles. For final nesting, use the actual template or a scale drawing. An estimated area can be accurate while the cutting shape remains impossible to fit inside the chosen sheet.
Create a worksheet with one row per panel. Do not combine unlabeled measurements because it becomes difficult to confirm which pieces were included.

Add the areas only after confirming that every intended surface appears on the list. Commonly missed pieces include step faces, small hatch lids, narrow strips beside consoles and the area behind the helm seat.
Ordering the exact mathematical area leaves no room for trimming or alignment. The allowance should reflect how efficiently the pieces can be nested.
An offcut is useful only when its length, width, pattern direction and color position match another required panel. Do not count every scrap as reusable area.
Suppose the measured deck area is 31 square feet and the project uses a 15% allowance:
31 × 1.15 = 35.65 square feet
If the selected sheet is 94.5 × 35.4 inches, with approximately 23.2 square feet of gross area:
35.65 ÷ 23.2 = 1.54
The preliminary quantity is two sheets. The calculation is not complete until the actual shapes are arranged inside two 94.5 × 35.4-inch rectangles.
This step prevents the most common quantity error. Draw every sheet as a rectangle using its actual dimensions. Draw each deck panel to the same scale, or place full-size templates over the uncut material before installation.
For projects with many panels, number each template and write the sheet number beside it. For example, A1 and A2 may be cut from Sheet 1, while B1, B2 and C1 are assigned to Sheet 2.
A 110 × 10-inch walkway has an area of only about 7.6 square feet, but it cannot be cut as one piece from a 94.5-inch-long sheet. It must be divided at a planned seam or produced through another format.
A shape measuring 50 inches across will not fit inside a 46.2-inch-wide sheet, even when its total area is small. The layout needs a seam, a revised boundary or another production approach.
Two 48 × 24-inch panels total only 16 square feet. However, they cannot be placed end-to-end inside a 94.5-inch sheet because 48 + 48 = 96 inches. They also cannot be placed side-by-side inside a 46.2-inch width because 24 + 24 = 48 inches. The area says one large sheet may be enough, but the dimensions say otherwise.
Rotating a faux-teak panel can make it fit mathematically while causing the stripes to run sideways or oppose adjoining pieces. Plan pattern direction before buying.
A very large single piece may reduce seams, but it can be difficult to position accurately after adhesive is exposed. Natural breaks at hatches, furniture and raised sections can produce a cleaner and more manageable installation.

A 94.5 × 23.6-inch sheet provides approximately 15.5 square feet. Both pieces are narrower than 23.6 inches, and their lengths total 84 inches. They can potentially be arranged end-to-end within the 94.5-inch length, leaving about 10.5 inches for separation and trimming.
Preliminary result: one 94.5 × 23.6-inch sheet can work, assuming the actual templates and pattern direction confirm the arrangement.
